Maddie: 2 1/2

At two and a half, this girl is FULL of personality (to say the least).  Some days she thinks she's twenty and can hold her own in a conversation with the best of us.  She talks all day long about anything and everything and her vocabulary never ceases to amaze me.  She wasn't a super early talker, but has exploded over the past several months.  I honestly don't know where she hears or comes up with a lot of the words and phrases she says.

She has always loved books and reading and now loves to read the books to us - and she does a really good job!  Her favorites are The Sea of Bath, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Ten Apples up on Top, Are you my Mother?, and pretty much anything else she can get her hands on. She loves to talk on her play kitchen phone and has some of the funniest conversations with whoever is on the other end (usually she is talking about her "parents").

She loves her name now and goes up to random people when we're out and says "My name is Maddie" and then proceeds to introduce both me and Beckham (she's started a lot of awkward conversations for me that way). She also introduces herself as "Elizabeth Taylor" a lot of the time (Elizabeth is her middle name).  I wear a gold chain necklace with discs for both my babes and she loves to point it out and says "one for Beckham, and one for me!"

She loves to watch movies - especially princess movies.  One of my favorite things she's been doing lately is singing the "flower gleam and glow" song from Tangled while she brushes or combs someones hair.  She also sings it in about 3x slow motion which is also pretty funny and makes it take forever.

She's gotten pretty good at saying her prayers at night and for meals and always says she is thankful for "not the fireworks" and the asks Heavenly Father to bless "not the fireworks."  I think the fourth of July might have traumatized her a little.  She also will carry around the scriptures saying "I've got my scripture power" or "it came to pass."

She loves music - especially listening to the radio in the car and knows a bunch of songs by name just by listening to the intro music.  Her favorites are "Catch my Breath" by Kelly Clarkson and "We found Love" by Rihanna.  She always asks "What's this song called Mommy?"  Or will say "This is a perfect song!"

She loves wearing dresses and told me yesterday that a goat we saw at wheeler farm loved her pretty pink dress.  She calls all shoes tap shoes and has the girliest animated mannerisms I've ever seen.  She loves jumping on the tramp, swimming, playing with her toys, and her Dad.  We've been working on manners lately and I honestly think it's been detrimental to me because she now asks for things so sweetly and politely that I really can't say no.

Maddie keeps us laughing pretty much constantly.  She is smart, strong-willed and sweet and I'm beyond grateful that she still asks me to cuddle and hold her.  She definitely runs the show at our house and probably will forever and we wouldn't have it any other way!

A one year old?

I'm not totally sure that I'm ready for this.  One year has flown by waaaay to quickly.   I'm pretty sure we brought a sleepy little baby home from the hospital only a month or two ago.  I want to call her a baby still, but parts of me think she is definitely a toddler (not quite sure what the distinction is here). She's totally full of personality.  She is moving everywhere and into everything - and I am loving it.

She had her one year doctor's appointment today and measured in at:

weight: 21.63 pounds (60%)
height: 30.9 inches (94%)
head: 19.2 inches (99.8%)

And I'm pretty sure if they measured her feet they would be like 3 inches and in the 5% - her feet are so tiny!

At one year old, Maddie is a great sleeper (most nights), still takes 2 naps almost everyday, loves her newfound crawling skills and cruises around everywhere.  She is a little cuddler and still loves sucking her thumb.  She also loves her little Aiden and Anais swaddle blankets (we've bought 8 so far). She loves playing hide and seek, sneaking up on mom, playing anything with dad, helping mom cook, taking everything out of mom's purse, singing songs with actions and taking long long baths.   She also loves the "Party in My Tummy Song" from Yo Gabba Gabba (weirdest show ever).

She loves reading probably more than anything - her favorite books are Tails, Heads, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Quick as a Cricket, Brown Bear Brown Bear, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  If Maddie were to dream up her perfect day it would probably be filled with me reading these books to her over and over and over and over...

She is the best little eater - I honestly have not found anything she won't eat.  Her favorites are tomatoes, bananas, cream of wheat, cheese, green beans, clementines, yogurt, graham crackers etc... she loves pretty much everything.

Maddie has the most easy-going personality most of the time, but definitely lets us know when she wants something.  She loves being the center of attention, and more often than not - she is the center of attention.  She is really social and loves making new friends, especially at the grocery store.  I catch her smiling at complete strangers everywhere we go.  She also loves little kids and babies.  Josh and I always joke that we need a 3 or 4 year old because Maddie would love it so much.

Year one with this little girl has been perfect... now onto year 2!

Today

Today is bringing back a lot of strong memories for me.  In two days my little Maddie will turn one, but it was on this day last year (a Wednesday of this week) that I realized that in just a few short hours we would have a little baby with us.

This time last year I was probably doing pretty routine things - cleaning up, trying to think of something to make for dinner, checking my email - except I was pretty sure I was having contractions.  Nothing too painful - just enough to make me wonder.  If today was today last year, I'd be having a baby in the morning.

When I found out I was pregnant four weeks after getting married I felt so overwhelmed and unprepared.  I had always wanted to be a mom more than anything but didn't expect that it would happen that soon.  Josh was amazing through everything, and despite my fears at times, he always reassured me that this was the right thing for us and helped me realize that things would work out.

I feel pretty safe speaking for both of us when I say that this past year has been the best year of our lives. We've had our ups and downs, but couldn't imagine ourselves any happier.  We have learned so so much and are so in love with our little girl, and even more in love with each other.  Sometimes I feel like I need to pinch myself - this little thing is real - and she's ours!  She is so sweet and so fun and makes our lives so much more complete.

Today we had the opportunity to celebrate Maddie's birthday a few days early by having lunch with Elder Holland.  It's something that she won't be able to remember herself, but I hope that we can help her to.  What a lucky little girl, and what an amazing opportunity.

I am feeling blessed today in so many ways.  Maddie, we love you more than words could ever say!

No pictures with Elder Holland today, but we did manage one in the yellow lights outside the
Church Administration Building entrance.

Little Miss Maddie

On Monday, my amazing friend Sarah took these photos (and more) for a new line of baby products that we're doing for Academy J.  I couldn't help but drool over her and her baby blues... I am one seriously proud mama.

A few pictures of Maddie

As aunt Jen requested - here are a few pictures of Maddie lately.  She not only gets cuter every day, but happier too.  As a side note: this blog will show dramatic improvement when I have internet on a consistent basis.

happy.

This little baby is one happy girl.  Seriously Josh and I lucked out getting such a happy baby (most of the time).  She's 4 months old and growing too fast.  I know I post about her constantly but I thought this picture was too cute to pass up.  A few things about our Maddie lately:

She is such a good sleeper at night and usually sleeps for 11 hours - sometimes we even get 12.
On the other hand, she hates taking naps unless she is being held... something we're working on.
She tried rice cereal and baby food for the first time a few days ago.  She did better than I thought she would but I'm thinkin we might wait a bit.
She seriously loves sitting up.  Obviously she can't on her own yet, but she loves to be held upright and looking around all the time.  She always is trying to sit up.
She is such a GIRL and her little personality already shows it.
She definitely has her own personality and is strong willed.  Although she's pretty easy going most of the time, when she gets upset or something is bugging her she lets you know.
She is still totally in love with Josh and lights up whenever she sees him.  He can get her to laugh so much and she is so content just hanging out with him doing whatever.
She loves her baths - I'm hoping this translates to her loving the pool here in a bit.

She's growin too fast but we're having so much fun watching her grow.

On a side note... my blog roll needs some help.  I've been needing to do this forever, but leave me your blog address if you have one!

month four

Maddie is four months old today - how can I pause time?  She is such a doll and has the sweetest personality.  She is learning so many new things and is curious about everything.  We love our Maddie!

Maddie Lately...

This little lady is learning something new everyday and it is so fun to watch! Lately she has loved her tongue and sucking on her bottom lip.  She loves to stretch out and play and cries sometimes if we interrupt her play time by picking her up.  She snores in her sleep sometimes and has lots of light hair that stands straight up.  She is so happy and sweet (unless she's hungry), and smiles at us constantly - I just can't ever seem to get pictures of her smiling.  We love our girl!

tub time!

Month Two.

Somehow she's already two months old - it's amazing how fast time goes.  We love this lady more and more each day.  She's getting to be a good sleeper (most days), and is becoming so independent... since when did my girl not want me to hold her?

And yes, I realize that all I ever post about is Madison.  But that's what happens when you have a baby in January and are trapped inside for 2 months... plus she and Josh are pretty much my whole life.  We are so excited about this warmer weather though and can't wait to get out and enjoy the sun.

Daddy's Girl

Our little lady is a Daddy's girl through and through.  The whole time I was pregnant with Maddie I'd tell Josh that she was going to love him more than anything and this is already proving to be true.  She lights up when she sees him and loves it when he holds her and rocks her to sleep.  Whenever I am trying unsuccessfully to calm her down Josh will say "let me taker her" and when he holds her she is instantly quiet. I'm not quite sure how I feel about it - just kidding, it's darling.

Josh loves his little girl.  I never thought I'd see the day when Josh asked me what bow I wanted Maddie to wear, but it happens all the time now... pretty cute.

Cousins Encounter

]

One of the attempts to get Seb and Maddie to acknowledge each other's existence... they are all each other has (as far as cousins go).  Sebastian was so cute with Madison - and Madison had no clue what was going on.

four weeks!

Tomorrow our little Maddie turns 4 weeks old. We are so completely in awe of this little girl and want time to either slow down or stop now.

These are a few of Maddie's newborn pictures.  Someone didn't like having her picture taken and may have cried more than ever before in her life through the process, but fortunately we had the wonderful and talented Sarah (Carabine) Jenson to work through the tears with us.

we're obsessed

We are loving having our little Maddie here.  She changes so fast and I already want to freeze time with her.  Today she officially had her first bath without tears (being naked is just not her thing).  She's also mastered the pirate look - something she's done since day one - by closing one eye and looking mad (see bottom 2 pictures)... (do all babies do this?)

Her little personality is starting to show through.  When she wants to cuddle she wants to cuddle, and when she doesn't she doesn't.  She is a noise maker and grunts loudly when you touch her or move her if she doesn't want you to.

Josh told me last night that I'm obsessed with my camera but really... it's Maddie.
